the old and young
Such a rainy day today... hehe some nurses were telling each other about how much they're longing for their beds today at the nursing home! It's been good, the nursing home job, been learning quite a bit, even though im no longer being trained up. The other staff in the kitchen are so kind and caring, not only towards me, but especially towards the residents. In the kitchen, our job is to see that all the meals are prepared and dished out, as well as tea and coffee etc. The other staff know the patients so well, that it's not only a matter of giving them the food that's been ordered, but in addition, thinking about which resident needs what kind of nutritional supplement, how a certain resident likes his/her tea, how someone likes their pureed food, which flavour cordial...it's like a huge family! It's been challenging, but rewarding, especially when you go that extra mile. You can either just do something, or do something to the very best of your ability. It's inspiring even, watching the other staff know and care about the elderly people there...watching them love the elderly!!!
Had a pretty good chat with one of the staff members on monday =) During lunch, we began talking about the residents and the nursing home, and then got onto how working at a nursing could be rather depressing because frankly, it's filled with deterioration >.< Then we got talking about the issues of life and death...and it turns out that she's a sister in Christ =) We got onto sharing with each other how the way we view such things as death changed after becoming Christian, how we came to know God, and other experiences. It was awesome!! She's a nice Korean lady who's around 50 years old...and yet...wow =) hehe!
Hehe had a pretty good chat with the head cook during lunch today...she's rather desperate for her son (who's around 24 yrs old) to find a girlfriend =P she's tried hard, and is keeping at it, continually bugging her son and all... oh dear !
Went to ACE yesterday! Really hope i didnt do anything destructive in terms of training the new tutors up >.< After 2 years, some things become almost routine that when it comes to teaching them to other people, it can be rather hard, leaving out certain details, giving instructions in the wrong order, etc. But i guess the essence of a good tutor really isnt about marking and setting work correctly, or even efficiently, or following the right general procedures etc...it's really about caring for the student, laying yourself out, doing things in a way so as to benefit THEM the most, it's all for their development...and it is rewarding.
*yawn*
got up at 5:40am today...was almost late for work stoopid me had to speed, going at 70km/h along beecroft rd at one stage =( grrrr. the head cook got there before i did boooo

I don't see how you can do anything destructive in training other people up! At worst, they don't learn anything from you.
BTW, do you actually read the comments on your blog?
hehe i think replying to ur comment shows u that i do read them! thanks for commenting =) appreciate them !!
